“This piece is a memory from standing at the edge of Nitmiluk (Katherine) Gorge at first light, looking out over the river as the walls and sandy banks catch the morning sun. It’s one of those places where you feel the scale of it straight away, quiet but powerful. I’ve painted it from memory to capture the feeling of being there. It’s a large piece, and that scale carries into the room. It has a calm presence but still holds a bit of weight, like the place itself.”
